Q:What does the man mean?

A language is a signaling system which operates with symbolic vocal sounds (), and which is used by a group of people for the purpose of communication.
Lets look at this function in more detail because it is language, more than anything else, that distinguishes man from the rest of the animal world.
Other animals, it is true, communicate with one another by means of cries: for example, many birds utter warning calls at the approach of danger; monkeys utter different cries, such as expressions of anger, fear and pleasure. But these various means of communication differ in important ways from human language. For instance, animals cries do not express thoughts and feelings clearly. This means, basically, that they lack structure. They lack the kind of structure that enables us to divide a human utterance into words
.We can change an utterance by replacing one word in it with another: a good illustration of this is a soldier who can say, e.g., tanks approaching from the north, and who can change one word and say aircraft approaching from the north or tanks approaching from the west; but a bird has a single alarm cry, whichmeans danger!
This is why the number of signals that an animal can make is very limited: the great tit (ɽȸ) is a case in point; it has about twenty different calls, whereas in human language the number of possible utterances is limitless. It also explains why animal cries are very general in meaning.

82 But for mobile phones, our communication would not have been so efficient and convenient.
83. In handling an embarrassing situation, nothing is more helpful than humor/ a sense of humor
84. The Foreign Minister said he was resigning, but (he) refused to make further explanation/ to further explain why
85. Human behavior is mostly a product of learning, while animal behavior depends mainly upon (on) their instinct(s)
86. The witness was told that under no circumstances should he lie to the court / is he allowed to lie to the court

Salary or Interest
1. Upon graduationvirtually all college students will confront the problem of the career choice. It is truly a tough choice. Students opinions differ greatly on this issue.
2. Some hold that priority should be given to their interest in jobsbut others take the attitude that salary is the most critical factor influencing their career choices.
3. As to myselfI prefer the latter view. A wellpaid job exerts a tremendous fascination on a great number of peoplewith no exception to me.
4. Although it might be impossible to measure the value of ones job in terms of moneysalary counts most when I choose my future career. In myviewour career choices largely depend on how and where we have
been brought up.
5. I come from a poor urban family and my parents were both laidoff workers. In order to finance my tuitionthey have been working hard over the past four years.
6. As the only son in my familyI have to shoulder the burden of supporting my family. In shortsalary is the first and only consideration in my choice of career.
